Weekend Writing Warriors Post #8SUNDAY Esperanza

Hey friends!  Thanks for coming by.  This past week has been one of new experiences for me.  I received my first homicide call, which was really scary.  It shook me a bit, but it has definitely made me appreciate life that much more.  I haven’t really had a chance to get too much writing done this week, so next week that will have to be one of my major priorities.

Now, let’s get down to business with this weeks Weekend Writing Warrior post.

~We are a fabulous group of individuals that posts 8-10 sentences on their blogs from a published or unpublished book. Then we “hop” around and leave comments on each other’s snippets.  We welcome EVERYONE’s comments.~

The moment we got off the airplane, I saw my sister standing by herself at the gateway.  I was so surprised to see her their alone that my heart skipped a beat as Gabrielle and I approached her.

“Mucho gusto.”  Liliana said, extending her hand to Gabrielle before I could introduce her.

Gabrielle raised her eyebrows and extended her hand to great my sister, nodding her head as if to say the same.

“She doesn’t speak Spanish.”  I muttered.

“Yo lo comprendo.”  Gabrielle said quietly, turning to me.  “My mother is Puerto Rican, I can speak fluently.”

  3. I like how she responds in Spanish to the person who does understand it before switching gears.

Great snippet, why is she standing alone, I wonder? If she was expecting to see the baby there, I sure hope nothing goes askew with her plan. Terrific tension.
(Just wanted to point out 2 minor typos, “her their alone” should be there; “to great my sister” should be greet)

  5. Uh oh, good to know she does speak Spanish! I’m with Chelle, wondering why her sister’s standing alone – hope there’s not an ominous reason coming! Interesting snippet…

  6. She “muttered”. Sounds like she not totally happy with the situation. Hmm… 🙂 Good 8!

Bless your heart, Neva Thanks goodness for people like you are always the calm voice at the other end of the phone call. 🙂

You raise several nice questions with this snippet. Why didn’t she know Gabrielle knew Spanish? Why is her sister standing alone?

I see how she’s trying to connect to Gabrielle, but… clearly she should have tried to do so sooner. Hopefully there will be more chances soon.
