Love Emotional Roller Coasters? Read this weeks Weekend Writing Warriors snippet!!!! #8SUNDAY Join us!!!

Yay, what an exciting week!!!!  Chicago is going to see 50 in the near future, and that’s degrees, folks!!!!  I am so excited.  I’m also excited because time changes this weekend!!!!  Yay, this is my favorite time of year!!!  I’m totally going to overuse the word excited this week, because I have a lot to be excited about!!!

(PS, they still haven’t posted my writing column in the paper, but I’ll keep you posted-and will be excited to share with you when they do!)

I am even more excited to share this weeks snippet for Weekend Writing Warriors with you!!!!  I hope that you enjoy reading this piece from the third book of the Liliana series, which I may possibly name “No Turning Back”.  In this snippet, Antonio has surprised Liliana by taking her to a place that will help her figure out just who she is.  Whee, enjoy!!!

************************************************************************************************************************************

“Did you think about my question?” Antonio asked as he stared at me in the sunlight.

I squinted my eyes as I stared at him in confusion. He smiled nervously and moved his chin as if to point down the street at an alley, causing my heart to skip a beat. I knew where we were and tears began to fall from my face.

“Where are we Antonio?” I sobbed, as if I needed him to answer my question.

He said nothing, instead pulling me towards him and I leaned in and buried my face in the wool of his sweater, as he rubbed my back to comfort me.

***************************************************************************************************

And that’s it.  I hope you enjoyed it.  Visit my Weekend Writing Warrior friends here.

I am fascinated by the combination of ruthlessness and tenderness in Antonio – his love for her is evident which makes this story so poignant.

  2. I’m glad you like it! I think this scene is my favorite scene from the story. Wish I could go into further details, but Antonio is really acting differently in this book.

  3. I agree with Chelle. He’s seen the light. Consider rereading this eight and leave out so many ‘as’.
Your enthusiasm for life rubbed off on me. Thanks for sharing your work at the paper and bits of your life style in Chicago, my hometown.

  5. Oh, what has he done? I guess he’s done something so sweet it’s made her cry. 🙂 Great snippet!

Glad it’s finally warming up. We were in Chicago area last week and I just about froze my buns off!

  6. Neva, that is so, so, so exciting! (Yeah, I’m excited too) Outstanding–you’re famous. 🙂 And I can say “I knew her when.” 😉

I’m really intrigued by this snippet. It sounds to me like you’re going to redeem Antonio in book 3. Cool!

Can I make a suggestion? Since you’re still in a writing stage where you can make changes. The second para: maybe this, “I squinted my eyes as I stared back at him, confused.” By adding the word “back”, it sounds intentional, not like a happenstance writing redundancy. But it’s just opinion. 🙂

I can hardly wait to read this book!!

I’m so proud of your article!

So much nonverbal communication going on here–they’re really close to each other.

The phrase “tears began to fall from my face” jarred me a bit, because I expected “eyes” and it sounded like her face was crying. I’m guessing you mean they’re dripping off her jaw? You might reword a bit.

That doesn’t sound good. Big confrontation coming up, or is this a spot that has sentimental value?

    Congratulations!
